da betano casino: After inexplicably losing to West Bromwich Albion last time out in the Premier League – and subsequently witnessing their top-four hopes take on yet another massive dent in what has so far proven a somewhat frustrating season – a familiar sense of doubt and uncertainty has once again crept in at Manchester United, with Louis van Gaal looking less and less likely to hold onto his current position with every passing week.
da wazamba: Yet whilst Jose Mourinho remains conveniently available for the Red Devils should they eventually lose patience, Man United will clearly want to strengthen their current squad this summer regardless of who is in charge of their club next season, and the rumours have seemingly already begun… even at this early stage in the proceedings.
So then, with Watford’s £20m striking sensation, Odion Ighalo, reportedly a major transfer target for the Red Devils, we ask the question: would the current Hornets favourite really represent a smart buy for Manchester United, or should the long-standing Premier League club point their resources elsewhere?
Well, on the back Ighalo’s undoubtedly impressive exploits this season, perhaps Man United have indeed sourced themselves a potentially exciting prospect in the 26-year-old Nigerian international after all.
The Vicarage Road favourite has successfully netted 16 goals in all competitions, which, alongside the efforts of Troy Deeney and several other valuable Watford stars, has helped Quique Sanchez Flores’ side steer clear of the once-impending threat of relegation, and will possibly even go on to aid the club with a surprise top-ten finish.
It doesn’t take a footballing genius to recognise Manchester United’s distinct lack of firepower in the final third this season has been an issue, for, although the Red Devils nonetheless spent a sizeable amount of cash on several signings, the goals haven’t flowed freely. Selling Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez was, in hindsight, silly.
With his quick turn of pace when running on the break, endearingly direct nature in and around the opposition’s penalty box, and daring range of technical skill that has served to bamboozle several top defenders in the Premier League this season, reports linking Ighalo with a summer move to Old Trafford ultimately come as very little surprise on the surface.
But would the Red Devils really see fit to splash £20m on the rapidly emerging Watford star this summer, when an enticing selection of alternative striking choices will likely become available in the not too distant future? It remains to be seen…
For as much as Ighalo has admittedly impressed in 2015/16, his valuation does seem a tad generous considering that he has only just burst onto the scene within the English Premier League itself. The 26-year-old could after all turn out to be little more than an exciting one-season-wonder, for he is not the only in-form striker to impress among the English top-flight in his first season away from the Championship after all…
Although Ighalo is rightfully deserving of all the praise to heading his way, Manchester United should, arguably, move for more proven quality ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, especially as the rest of their counterparts seem to be improving their squads at a rather efficient rate these days.
Yes, the widely admired African could potentially serve the Old Trafford faithful very well next term with all things fairly taken into account, but only if his possible capture is also complimented with several other progressive signings in the striking department.
At the end of the day, the Red Devils could theoretically chase worse targets than Ighalo in the run up to the brand new league campaign, but as the Vicarage Road favourite is yet to prove his worth for a consistent number of seasons in England, maybe Louis van Gaal’s side shouldn’t be tempted to land in the current Watford star just yet.
