Newcastle United are probing in the market and could now be edging closer to a statement signing after several near misses over the last few weeks, according to a report.
Newcastle United turn attention to new striker targets
The Magpies have been in for a bumpy ride this window and several of their targets have opted to move elsewhere despite concrete interest from St James’ Park, the latest of which being Manchester United-bound Benjamin Sesko.
Despite both Premier League clubs spending weeks battling for his signature, Ruben Amorim has won the race for his signature and Newcastle are now in the process of moving on to other targets.
Dominoes are starting to fall and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is under consideraton by Newcastle with the new campaign approaching, and it remains to be seen whether Eddie Howe will test Enzo Maresca’s resolve over the next few weeks.
Delving further into the relationship between both clubs, Craig Hope stated on X that “Jackson is on NUFC shortlist, but others are ahead of him,” and one of those may be Samu Aghehowa, after David Ornstein revealed interest in the Porto star on Friday.
In Jackson’s case, he’s a player who has the potential to divide supporters after a return of 13 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. Coincidentally, he would miss his first match in Newcastle colours due to a red card suspension still to be served for his dismissal at St James’ Park in May.

Nevertheless, the Geordies deserve some good luck on the market after some near misses, and they may finally be in luck when it comes to addressing another key area in their starting line-up.
Newcastle submit second bid for Malick Thiaw
According to NUFC Blog, Newcastle have submitted a second bid worth over £30 million for Malick Thiaw as they intensify efforts to bring their long-term target to St James’ Park.
Previously, the Magpies agreed personal terms with Thiaw ahead of his proposed move to the North East, though they previously saw a £26 million offer thrown out for the German international.

Dubbed a “fighter” by teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the 24-year-old scored once and claimed a solitary assist in 31 appearances last term across all competitions. Now, it is believed that Newcastle fully believe Thiaw is open to a move to Tyneside and confidence is growing that a deal can be finalised by all parties by the end of the window.
However, Massimiliano Allegri has been impressed by his performances in pre-season, which supporters will hope doesn’t prompt a late rethink from the Italian giants regarding the defender’s future.
Admittedly, Newcastle have endured some frustrating moments this window, but adding Thiaw to the camp would be a signal of their intent.
